Your Tech Mates

Office Computer

If you are in the market for a home or office computer, it can be challenge to know where to begin. You want a reliable machine that can handle all necessary programs without breaking down or slowing down too quickly. Here are a few guidelines to consider:

It’s always a good idea to have a backup computer on hand, even if it’s an older or refurbished model or an old laptop. This way, if anything happens to your primary computer, you can continue working without interruption.

In an office environment, it’s highly recommended to replace computers every three years. While you can stagger replacements, three years is generally the point where new technology comes out and programs and operating systems begin to use more resources.

When purchasing a computer, it’s best to get one with an onsite support warranty. This will save you time and money in the long run, as you won’t have to take your computer to a technician or pay for expensive repairs.

When it comes to choosing a brand, it’s been shown that bigger brands generally have higher longevity. The parts they use have been tested and work well with other parts, and they often offer good onsite service. Additionally, many brands offer loyalty programs where you can get discounts if you order multiple computers.

In the United States, the largest computer company is Dell. They have a good reputation for customer service, reasonable pricing, and reliable systems. While there are other good brands out there such as HP, Asus, and Lenovo, Dell is our top recommendation based on our experience with our clients.

Some offices may choose to use Apple computers, which are very reliable but can be more expensive and may not support all necessary applications. And may require training of the staff, as most people use PC.  It’s best to consult with your IT department before making a decision.

For a standard home or office environment, our top choice is the Dell i5 with the latest generation CPU at the time of purchase. At least 12GB memory , although 16GB is preferred. 256 gb solid state hard drive is usually sufficient, due to cloud based application , that save all data either on the cloud or on the local server.

 To sum it up:

Choosing the right computer is an important factor in your business / home office. Whichever computer you use , having a backup computer would be highly recommended , and not saving on computer. The computer is the engine of the business. If it stops your business stops. Taking premeasures actions, could save time and money.

And here is a tip: if you buy big quantities, you should contact the manufacturer directly, if not you may want to look and other stores, they run discounts and specials and so often. For example Costco, will extend the warranty, BestBuy sometimes will have open box for a discount.
